No rust after the bye week for No. 2 Ohio State. The Buckeyes picked up where they left off with a record-setting offensive performance and pitched a defensive shutout to cruise past Rutgers to open Big Ten play with a 58-0 win.

Hillary Clinton? Donald Trump? The Auburn student section has another candidate in mind for this year's presidential election ... Daniel Carlson. The junior kicker is a perfect 12 of 12 on field goals this season for Auburn.

We'll learn more about Miami next week against Florida State, but Mark Richt and his assistants have done an exceptional job. Depth was a major concern for the Canes entering the season, especially on defense, but coordinator Manny Diaz and his staff are improving the unit. Miami entered today leading the FBS in points allowed (7.7) and percentage of plays for zero or negative yards (48.6). The defense wasn't as sharp at Georgia Tech but still contributed a touchdown and allowed just three conversions on 12 third-down attempts.

Phil Mickelson is trying to avoid a dubious distinction in his afternoon match at Hazeltine. With a loss in the morning session, Lefty now has 20 losses in his Ryder Cup career, tying Jim Furyk for the most in U.S. history. Another today or tomorrow would give him the U.S. "record.'' The most losses by any player is 21, held by Neil Coles and Christy O'Connor both of whom played for the Great Britain & Ireland side prior to continental Europe joining the Ryder Cup.

A group of students expected to grow to more than 200 is planning to sit through the national anthem at Florida State. Marvel Joseph, one of the organizers, said he wants to continue the conversation surrounding injustices in America and thanked Colin Kaepernick for inspiring him. "He took his platform to a whole other level. He doesn't have to do it, so I want to use my platform and take stand and sit with him." The group will raise their fists at the end of the anthem. They did not talk to any football players about joining.
