The force that drove the lion inside Palmer

The King was much more complex than his neighborly image. The inner rage of a nice man named Arnold Palmer pushed the seven-time major champion to unprecedented heights.

Pride the root of Europe's success

A complete unknown and a bit of a joke early on, Europe has come together and proved with its win over Sweden and a berth in the finals against Canada that it is the real thing.

The Giants running back snaps: Shane Vereen 36, Orleans Darkwa 21, Bobby Rainey 8. Vereen's usage spiked slightly with Rashad Jennings sidelined. So did his touches (16). Would've probably been more if not for fumble.

I love it when a star isn't "too cool" to still be a fan! Dabo Swinney told me a hilarious story about meeting Pitt/Dallas Cowboys legend Tony Dorsett: He was at the ACC awards dinner and sees Dorsett. Freaks. "That's TONY DORSETT. I ain't leavin' here til I meet him! "Here I'm about to accept ACC Coach of the Year and I'm all super fan over here." Suddenly, here comes Dorsett, says... "I HAVE to get a picture with you. My agent will die!" Dorsett's agent? A Clemson grad. And then this showed up in the mail.

If New Orleans beats Atlanta tonight there would be a four-way tie in the NFC South at 1-2. The Panthers and Bucs already are 1-2. Feel like 2014?

Just asked Dabo Swinney what he sees when he studies Louisville QB Lamar Jackson: "He's Michael Vick, right-handed." Strong.

Some historic lows for Ryan Fitzpatrick and the Jets: The first QB with six INTs and no TD passes since 1989 (Tom Tupa, Cards). Three red-zone INTs in a span of five attempts; had three in previous 192 attempts, dating to 2012. Eight turnovers tied for the second-most in team history, the most since 1976. Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels was asked Monday morning on sports radio WEEI if he knows which QB will be starting Sunday against the Bills. "I don't know that," he responded. "I haven't seen them in a few days. Hopefully all those guys are continuing to get better. We'll see them [Tuesday] and hopefully they're all ready to go."

Andrew Luck had his 14th career game-winning drive, tied for the 4th-most in the NFL since he entered the league in 2012. Luck had his 2nd game with at least 300 passing yards this season, matching his total from last season.

Ezekiel Elliott rushed for 140 yards in the Cowboys' win over the Bears on Sunday night. Elliott totaled 134 rushing yards in his first 2 games combined. His 274 rushing yards through the first 3 games are second-most by a Cowboys player. Calvin Hill's 299 are the most.

Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott played like a Top 5 pick tonight. Power, vision and speed through the hole. Elliott finished with 140 yards rushing on 30 carries and he also added 20 yards receiving. I thought Elliott hit the hole with much more acceleration than I saw on film in the first two weeks of the season. He showcased the ability to bounce the ball outside and find cutback lanes. He's a great fit for the Cowboys zone running schemes. Impressive night for the rookie in the Cowboys 31-17 win over the Bears.

The Dallas Cowboys have their first home win in more than a year. Thanks to three rushing touchdowns, a cool Dak Prescott and an impressive Ezekiel Elliott, the Cowboys beat the Chicago Bears, 31-17, to end an eight-losing streak at AT&T Stadium. Prescott has gone 99 passes without an interception and Elliott picked up the first 100-yard game of his career. The Cowboys are staring at 3-1 start with trip to San Francisco next week.

Cubs win their 99th game with a 3-1 victory over St. Louis giving them 7 tries to win No. 100 for the first time since 1935. Jon Lester improved to 19-4 pitching his league leading 24th game giving up fewer than 3 runs. He gave up zero in 6.2 innings.

The Cardinals lost a hard-fought 3-1 game to the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field Sunday night to slip further back in the wild-card race. They trail the New York Mets by 1 1/2 games and the San Francisco Giants by a half-game with seven games remaining, all at home. Many of the Cardinals key hitters have slumped all month.

Dak Prescott threw his first career TD pass on the slant route to Dez Bryant. But the play started with Bryant's release. He put in some work with the quick outside move to set up Bears CB Tracy Porter. That was pretty smooth. Bryant turned Porter around on that one. Cowboys up 31-10 in the fourth quarter.

Bears running back Jeremy Langford suffered an ankle injury and rode on a cart back to the locker room. The team says Langford's return is questionable. Rookie Jordan Howard has replaced Langford as the Bears' feature back.

Bears get on the board in the second half with Brian Hoyer's 4th down TD pass to TE Zach Miller. An option route with Miller creating separation vs. Cowboys safety Byron Jones. Release up the field, collision the safety (which won't be called) and break outside. It's now 24-10 Cowboys in the third quarter.
