The world changed Saturday night at Wrigley

Grown men cried. Strangers hugged. Nobody wanted to leave. Why? The Chicago Cubs are FINALLY going to the promised land. And the moment transcended baseball.

Blame Grigson, not Luck, for Colts' mess

"When you pay Andrew what we did, it's going to take some time to build on the other side of the ball," said Colts GM Ryan Grigson, who has had plenty of time and not much to show for it in Indy.

How unlikely was the way Penn State beat Ohio State on Saturday night? According to ESPN stats & information, Penn State had been the only Power 5 team without a special teams touchdown over the last four seasons until the blocked field goal and return by Grant Haley. Other than offensive line, special teams took the biggest hit from the scholarship penalties so this is a good sign for Penn State's future.

Good morning, Los Angeles. Are you awake? In less than 80 minutes, the Rams will be playing football for real. Pharoh Cooper, Sean Mannion, Nelson Spruce, Trumaine Johnson, Jamon Brown, Michael Brockers and Pace Murphy are inactive for their game against the Giants from London.

Odell Beckham Jr. (hip/ab) just spent a lot of time with trainers. Didn't warm up with the wide receivers and had long conversation with Ben McAdoo.

It's a new morning in Chicago. A morning unlike any this city has seen the past 71 years.

Although Carson Palmer looks like he is safe to start for fantasy tonight, it's not clear if he will have John Brown as a target. Brown was just diagnosed with sickle-cell trait, so his status going forward probably hinges on how he feels on any given Sunday.

Will this net on the Giants sideline get some action? It has been very involved in recent weeks.

First Giants player on the field is center Weston Richburg. He's sticking to his routine. Always out early.

Definitely a lot of random jerseys. That's Dez Bryant. But no doubt more Giants than Rams at this "road" game.

Not that there was a question, but Giants WR Odell Beckham Jr is active today, per source.

One of Jon Lester's biggest motivations for signing with Cubs was his envy of 2004 Red Sox. Now he's 4 wins away. "I didn't get to be part of it in '04," Lester told me after his introductory press conference in December 2014. "You look at Dave Roberts. He stole one base and the guy's a legend. To see that and to see how it changed the organization, changed the town, just the idea of coming here and breaking their (curse), that was one of the reasons that led us here."

First comes the game. Then comes the party. Then comes the really hard part. Cleaning the clubhouse!

Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw, when the end of the season arrived: "I'd much rather be in this situation and fail, than not be in this situation at all. As much as it does hurt, as much as I would have liked to have won tonight, I'm really thankful that I've gotten to be on a team that has been in the postseason four years in a row."

By my count, there were at least 8 new FBS records, 9 Big 12 records and 13 school records in the Oklahoma-Texas Tech game tonight. And I'm probably missing a few. One of the craziest FBS records tonight that might never be broken: Patrick Mahomes accounting for 100 total plays (88 passing, 12 rushing).

Had an interesting exchange with one Cubs fan amid the mayhem after the game. Like he noted, the crowds were pretty tame. Excited, energetic, but restraint-filled reaction from Chicago tonight. A lot of people were simply standing around drinking beers, cheering, singing "Go Cubs Go" on an endless loop, and soaking up a moment that had eluded them and their parents and grandparents for so many years.

Now that the NLCS champagne celebration has ended, let this soak in: When the lights come back on at Wrigley, the Chicago Cubs will be taking the field in Game 3 of the World Series.

Dodgers team buses finally left Wrigley Field at about 11:30 p.m. local time, about 1-hour, 45-minutes after last pitch.

SMU slams door on Houston rally

Leonard Fournette says his preseason ankle injury "never really healed" when he tried to play the first month of the season. But after a layoff of nearly a month, he went off for 284 yards in LSU's 38-21 win over Ole Miss on Saturday. Here Fournette discusses his performance and how he hates being compared to teammate Derrius Guice.

Washington State held off a furious fourth-quarter rally from Arizona State, winning 37-32, to stay perfect in Pac-12 play. The Cougars are 4-0 in league play for the first time since 2003 and are tied with Washington atop the Pac-12 North standings. They travel to Oregon State next weekend. ASU heads to Oregon next week, but the status of quarterback Manny Wilkins remains unknown after he left in the first quarter with an undisclosed injury.
