Alabama DE Jonathan Allen's reaction to Jabrill Peppers being a Heisman Trophy finalist over him: "I hope Jabrill Peppers wins. Represent for the defense. That's what I told him. I'm not bothered by it. It's fine because I won the Nagurski Trophy. I'm perfectly fine with that. I won't lose any sleep over that.

Texas RB D'Onta Foreman said that the firing of Charlie Strong didn't have a major impact on his decision to turn pro, but it was the final factor in his decision. "Once I talked to my parents, I pretty much knew what I was going to do. Whether he would have left or stayed, I probably still would have gone to the NFL anyway. With him leaving, it definitely put the top on it and [told him] 'Yeah, it's definitely time for me to leave.'"

LeBron James, who averages 28.5 career points per game and has two triple-doubles at Madison Square Garden, came off the court after warmup not too long ago pouring sweat, looking focused and rapping along to Jay Z's '99 Problems.' Looks and sound like a problem for the Knicks, who won't have Derrick Rose (back).

Lucas Giolito rejoins my top 100 starting pitchers following the trade, checking in 93rd. It's a bad park for a pitcher, but his odds of breaking camp in the rotation improved, and he'll have a pitching coach (Don Cooper) who can help him adjust.

The Nats finally joined the winter meetings party by acquiring Adam Eaton, but the cover charge sure was steep: Two first-round pitchers (Lucas Giolito and Dane Dunning), and a top 50 prospect who throws high 90's cheese (Reynaldo Lopez). Guess they really wanted to move Trea Turner back to shortstop.
