How will Arena utilize USMNT prospects?

How will the new man in charge of the U.S. men's team approach the batch of talented young players differently than his predecessor?

These Penn State fans don't seem to mind the possibility of missing the playoff, given the alternative.

The CFP committee has a nice parallel to evaluate: Washington and Penn State both had similar resume building opportunities in league title games versus top 10 teams. The Huskies won their game by 31 points; the Nittany Lions won by 7. Given the fact that Washington was already ranked ahead of Penn State, a flip-flop seems illogical.

Favorites won 6 of the 8 major conference title games, but the ViewFromVegas is underdogs were 5-3 ATS. Temple (AAC) and Penn State (Big 10) pulled the outright upsets while Ohio (MAC), Wyoming (Mountain West) and Virginia Tech (ACC) also covered in losses.

Pure chaos should be averted with Clemson's win. There's a very good chance the final College Football Playoff top four will look just like last week's. Three of the four participants won conference championship games against ranked teams, and the fourth (Ohio State) didn't play.

From a numbers perspective, a Penn State win is actually better from Washington's perspective. The Nittany Lions' strength of record (16%) is worse than Wisconsin's (12%) given a win. The Huskies are at 11%, the best of the group, and looking for the most surefire way to hold onto their No. 4 spot.

With possibly two games against ranked opponents left, Alabama has already tied the single-season record for wins over ranked opponents in one season.

The folks in Tuscaloosa can rest easy tonight knowing that Alabama will likely be the No. 1 seed in the College Football Playoff thanks to Nick Saban, who is just two wins away from adding another national championship to his record.

Clemson is going to make this tougher than it has to be, which keeps with the trend all season. They've given up 216 yards on the last three possessions, and the Tigers lead 42-35 with 5:43 left. Does Deshaun Watson, who already has five total touchdowns, have one more drive in him?

Talk about a change in momentum -- and Penn State owes most (all?) of it to quarterback Trace McSorley. On his last nine passes, dating back to the end of the second quarter, McSorley is 9-of-9 for 241 yards and four touchdowns. Incredible.

Maybe it was a miscommunication, but Clemson opted to rush zero against Virginia Tech shortly after taking a 35-14 lead. It turned into a long completion, and since then the Hokies are rolling. The Tigers' lead is down to seven, and the pressure has been turned up with a playoff 11:35 away.
