Joe Girardi on A-Rod: "Mr. Steinbrenner always gave people second and third chances and brought people back to the organization that had done really good things for the organization. There are situations that happen that aren't always so positive. That didn't keep Mr. Steinbrenner from bringing them back before. Hal [Steinbrenner] is doing the same thing."

DeMarcus Cousins is averaging 27.8 points and 10.6 rebounds per game this season. According to Elias, only 2 players in NBA history finished a season in which they played for more than one NBA team averaging at least 25 points and 10 rebounds - Wilt Chamberlain in 1964-65 (Warriors and 76ers) and Bob McAdoo in 1976-77 (Buffalo Braves and Knicks).

With 23 points last night, LeBron James has scored 314 points in his 13 All-Star Game appearances, the most by any player in All-Star Game history (Kobe Bryant is second with 290 points).

Sources say Mavs' approach to deadline isn't impacted by DeMarcus Cousins deal. The Mavs won't pull the plug on fighting for West's final playoff spot. That doesn't necessarily mean the Mavs won't make a trade, but there will not be a fire sale with Dallas veterans.

The Dodgers remain encouraged about LHP Hyun-Jin Ryu, who had another positive throwing session Sunday. "Ryu still has a smile on his face about how well he threw," manager Dave Roberts said. "That was exciting. He said he feels good today." Ryu has pitched in just one game the last two years because of shoulder and elbow procedures.

Dexter Fowler did not back away from his comments to ESPN.com last week that President Donald Trump's efforts to institute a travel ban on certain Muslim countries is "unfortunate." Fowler, whose wife was born in Iran, was overwhelmed by social-media reaction, both good and bad, but said he doesn't regret making the comments.

Russell Westbrook leads the NBA in points scored (1,771). That's the most points scored for any player at the All-Star break since Nate "Tiny" Archibald scored 1,810 points before the break in 1972-73.

The return that the Kings got for DeMarcus Cousins (2017 first-round pick, 2017 second-round pick, Buddy Hield, Tyreke Evans and Langston Galloway) should give the Knicks an indication of what they could expect back in a Carmelo Anthony trade. Every situation is different, but Anthony would bring back less in a potential trade than Boogie did, you'd think. Further complicating matters for the Knicks is the fact that Anthony has a no-trade clause.

Why are the Dodgers not like the NBA All-Star Game? Duh. They play better defense. The Dodgers don't have the best range, but they field and throw well. "It's something we take pride in," 3B Justin Turner said. "Not just here but in a lot of sports, defense gets overlooked. It's not the high profile part of the game but it is something that wins championships."

The Nationals just finished practicing pop flies in bright Florida sunshine, and Trea Turner, as usual, was without sunglasses. He has never liked using them, he says, because of how he feels they affect depth perception. He doesn't use his glove, either, to shield his eyes from the sun as he tracks pop flies; rather, he angles his head and uses the bill of his cap.

Kenley Jansen revealed more about his offseason wedding that led to his return to the Dodgers. Jansen said that he had just finished the first dance at his reception when he was notified the Dodgers were adding a fifth year to his contract offer. Jansen said he returned to the dance floor and decided in the morning that he would chose the Dodgers over the Nationals.
