If Short doesn't practice today it will be three straight he has missed. The first two Carolina was installing the game plan for the Sept.8 opener at Denver.

New Panthers punter Andy Lee continues to wear No. 8 as a tribute to his late daughter, Madeline. Lee made the switch from his traditional No.4 to 8 last year after being traded from San Francisco to Cleveland. He did it to honor the memory of Madeline, who lived only eight days in January before dying of complications after her birth. He chose 8 at Carolina after the Panthers acquired him in a trade on Monday.
