Phil Mickelson, the golfer known as Lefty, made a stir today by hitting a shot righty, even though he's a natural right-hander. Got it?

Somebody new must be in charge of the warmup music for the Panthers. Today Cam Newton seemed to enjoy dancing to "Your Love is Lifting me Higher" followed by James Brown's "I Got You." Earlier this week "Brown Eyed Girl" was on the playlist.

ESPN Stats and Information

Marcus Mariota had a 3.6 Total QBR against the Raiders on Sunday despite a decent-looking stat line: 17-of-33 for 214 passing yards. But Mariota struggled mightily on third downs, converting first downs on two of his 12 plays (he also was flagged for a false start on a third-and-9 in the red zone, which affected his rating). Looking only at his third-down play, Mariota's QBR was a 1.3.

Bucs center Joe Hawley is snapping the ball to Jameis Winston in practice today, which is a good sign. He suffered an ankle injury and missed practice Wednesday. He returned but was limited on Thursday. If he cannot go, the team has Evan Smith as a backup.

Sergio Garcia has definitely taken up the mantle for Ian Poulter on the European Team. As his par putt dropped into the hole on the 9th green, Garcia slowly pumped his fist while eyeballing the crowd almost daring the U.S. biased spectators to remain quiet. Garcia and Kaymer remain 1up thru 9 holes vs. Jimmy Walker and Zach Johnson.

Dustin Johnson and Matt Kuchar are DOMINATING Lee Westwood and Thomas Pieters. DJ just dropped a birdie on the 8th to put the U.S. 5up!! This match could be over very early.

Jets practice underway here in Florham Park. WR Eric Decker (shoulder) is out here for warmups but wearing a baseball cap, no helmet. Looks like he's a no-go again today.

LeGarrette Blount is averaging 25 carries per game, so would Bill Belichick like to see that number reduced? "I'd like to see us win. That's what I'd like to see," Belichick answered Friday. "It's not about individual stats. It's about the team winning. That's what is important to me and that's what is important to the team."

HUGE ROAR from the 9th green that could easily be heard in the media center some 500+ yards away as Rickie Fowler chips in for birdie on the 9th hole!!! That's three holes in a row the Fowler/Phil Mickelson pair have won. They make the turn 1 up over Rory McIlroy/Andy Sullivan

Buddy Ponder has been driving Clemson's team bus for the past eight years. Bus 1 takes coach Dabo Swinney and the defensive players to the stadium. The offensive players ride in another bus. "These are the working men," Buddy says with a smile. "I tell them, 'You take care of the pretty boys in the other bus.'"

Jordan Spieth and Patrick Reed are proving to be a formidable team. They went 2-0-1 at Gleneagles and so far are 3-up thru 8 over Henrik Stenson and Justin Rose -- who have yet to win a hole. The other matches: McIlroy/Sullivan 1 up thru 7 over Mickelson/Fowler Garcia/Kaymer 1-up thru 5 over Walker/Z.Johnson D.Johnson/Kuchar 3-up thru 5 over Westwood/Pieters

Phil Mickelson's putter fails him on the 4th hole, while Rory McIlroy's does not. Mickelson and Rickie Fowler go one down to McIlroy and Andy Sullivan thru four holes.

The forecast was for sunny skies and 71 degrees but Mother Nature must have known what the Ryder Cup means so she set the tone perfectly as the first matches began this morning in Chaska, Minnesota.

What will Tiger Woods do all day? Well, even as a vice captain, he cannot give advice to players. The Rules of Golf only allow for advice from the caddie, or in a team event, your partner or partner's caddie. At the Ryder Cup, captain's Davis Love III and Darren Clarke can also give advice, and typically they rely on info from their assistants to pass on info.

There's an eerie fog hanging around the golf course at the Ryder Cup this morning but it hasn't dampened the spirit of the HUGE and very boisterous crowd that's on site.
