Divisional Rankings: Heavyweight division wide open

With Tyson Fury away for the near future and Wladimir Klitschko sidelined with a calf injury, Anthony Joshua and Joseph Parker have a chance to make a move -- if they win their respective fights.

For Game 1 of the World Series tonight, the Indians will wear their alternate navy blue jerseys (which they've worn throughout the postseason except in Game 1 of the ALDS against Boston, when they wore white) and their Chief Wahoo caps (which they've worn for every postseason game so far).

It's a long way from the opening pitch & tip, but East 4th in downtown Cleveland is already nearing a standstill

Just under four hours until the start of World Series Game 1, the Indians are out getting their pregame work in at Progressive Field.

It's finished 2-1 here at Anfield as Liverpool reach the quarterfinals of the EFL Cup. Daniel Sturridge grabbed his second goal of night before Vincent Janssen netted from the penalty spot to set up a tense finish.

Jon Lester is starting Game 1 of the World Series for the Cubs Tuesday night. Lester has an ERA of 0.43 in three career World Series starts, the third-lowest ERA in World Series history with a minimum of 20 innings pitched.

The Cavs won the 2016 NBA title wearing their black jerseys, so fans in the arena tonight will get black T-shirts as a banner is raised in Cleveland for the first time in 52 years.

ESPN Stats and Information

The Cubs haven't won the World Series since 1908 and the Indians haven't won it since 1948. According to Elias Sports Bureau research, this is the first World Series between two franchises each with at least a current 50-year championship drought.

The best two trades at the trade deadline were the Indians acquisition of Andrew Miller and the Cubs trade for Aroldis Chapman as both clubs prepare for Game 1 of the World Series from Progressive Field in Cleveland, Ohio. The most important thing to remember from this.......GM's matter.

Kyle Schwarber says he thought "about six days ago" he had a chance to play again this year.

David Schoenfield SweetSpot blogger

Is Joe Maddon outsmarting himself for Game 1? He's starting a right fielder who played 26 innings there for the Cubs all season and a DH who hasn't faced major league pitching in six months. The goal: Chris Coghlan and Kyle Schwarber will work deep counts against Corey Kluber and perhaps run up his pitch count. And, who knows, maybe Schwarber runs into something.

Something tells me Bob Lemon would have liked having Andrew Miller on his side:

Injured Jets WR Eric Decker, a close friend of Ryan Fitzpatrick, suggested the long contract stalemate may have fueled Fitzpatrick's post-game venting against team brass. Decker: "Throughout the offseason, I think it was hard for him, just trying to gauge the interest, I guess, maybe the Jets had or what their plan was going forward in getting him in the facility to start the season. ... Whether it's some feelings on the process or what was said throughout that maybe led to some of the emotions he had at this point." (Courtesy: Hahn & Humpty Show, ESPN NY radio.)

It's a baseball and basketball day in Cleveland, but why not mix in a little football? Addison Russell, Jason Hammel and Matt Szczur are getting loose by tossing the pigskin around the Progressive Field outfield before Game 1 of the World Series.

Cubs know they have to out score Indians first 5 innings before Miller and Allen time. Therefore, Coughlin starts in RF (better chand than Heyward to hit Kluber) and Schwarber starts at DH, one of few players that can roll out of bed and hit. Expect Heyward to be in RF if they get a lead and watch for Contreras to hit for Schwarber when Miller comes in. Game 1 World Series...Cubs at Indians get ready for many eye opening surprises because it's Maddon vs Francona.

Among the monuments outside Progressive Field is one for Cleveland's last World Series title in 1948 -- 40 years after the Cubs last title.

The Indians plan to do what the Dodgers failed to do against Jon Lester in game 5 of NLCS and that's run. Dodgers Peterson, Hernandez and Seager all got big leads and didn't run on Lester. If Indians can get on against Lester (which is big if) their plan is big leads and run on first move, as soon as Lester picks up front leg. Indians led AL in stolen bases so unlike Dodgers who only talked about it, expect Indians to actually try to do it. Lester is quick to plate and Ross has quick release and strong arm. This could end up being the key to Game 1.

Jesse Rogers ESPN Staff Writer

Joe Maddon has Kyle Schwarber batting fifth in his first game since early April while Chris Coghlan will play right field in place of Jason Heyward who has struggled all season. Coghlan is hitting seventh with Addison Russell eighth and David Ross ninth.

Dan Mullen ESPN.com

A rather unique media workroom experience. The Indians turned their Kids Club into an additional media space for the postseason, complete with a slide just beyond the right-field foul pole.

Jackets that Cavaliers will wear tonight for ring ceremony, banner raising & season opener ($110)

Jim Bowden ESPN Senior Writer

Theo Epstein knew how to break the curse leading Red Sox to World Championships. Now he may have found way to break curse for Cubs. This morning he and his Baseball Operations staff played basketball at Quicken Loans arena.....home of Champion Cavaliers. Why significant? In LA they played at Staples Center called it Showtime (no offense to Dodgers owner Magic Johnson) as Theo's team won 3-1, then Cubs won 3 straight to eliminate Dodgers and win pennant for first time in 71 years. Now they play in Lebron's house the day the Cavs get their rings. Forget the goats and Bartman it just might be Theo's basketball games that leads Cubs to doing something they haven't done since 1908.
