Now that the fight between junior middleweight titlist Jermall Charlo and No. 1 contender Julian Williams is here, the question is, can they make it count? Both are ready, or so they say.

Dodgers GM Farhan Zaidi said he's confident the Dodgers will be able to hit on their offseason targets. So with one more day remaining at the winter meetings, could the club do something soon? "There's no trade or free agent deal that is available to us that we would say that we would do right now," said Zaidi, who believes there is plenty of time remaining this offseason to get a desired deal done.

Clemson QB Deshaun Watson on if he thinks he should win the Heisman: "Of course. I think everyone should have that mindset that they deserve to win it." But here's his case for why he should win the Heisman over Louisville QB Lamar Jackson: "I really don't get too big into all that. Whoever wins it really deserves it. At the end of the day, we both did some great things for our teams."

Florida State RB Dalvin Cook said he's honored to be up for the Doak Walker Award this season, but doesn't feel like he was snubbed for the award last year or a spot as a finalist for the Heisman Trophy this year. "To get [nominated] for the awards, it shows you have to do the dirty work to be successful. It's not [frustrating]. I knew my time would come and I just had to keep working hard."

Lot of credit to ND's Arike Ogunbowale. Took some early shots that seemed out of offense. But Irish might have needed that confidence infusion. ND and UConn tied 34-34 at half.

Notre Dame with two 3-pointers and UConn with just one thus far as Irish lead Huskies 34-30 with 1:40 left in second quarter.

T.J. Lang practiced for the first time since he broke his left foot on Nov. 13 at Tennessee. Sounds like he still might be a long shot to play this Sunday against Seattle, but it's a step in the right direction. Here's the full injury report:

Rebounding has been a long term bugaboo for Notre Dame. Paying price so far. UConn has as many offensive rebounds as ND total rebounds. Six second chance points despite missing just six shots.

Alabama DE Jonathan Allen's reaction to Jabrill Peppers being a Heisman Trophy finalist over him: "I hope Jabrill Peppers wins. Represent for the defense. That's what I told him. I'm not bothered by it. It's fine because I won the Nagurski Trophy. I'm perfectly fine with that. I won't lose any sleep over that.

UConn out to 13-4 lead on Notre Dame. All Huskies points scored by players who had scored a grand total of 23 points all time in the series.

Texas RB D'Onta Foreman said that the firing of Charlie Strong didn't have a major impact on his decision to turn pro, but it was the final factor in his decision. "Once I talked to my parents, I pretty much knew what I was going to do. Whether he would have left or stayed, I probably still would have gone to the NFL anyway. With him leaving, it definitely put the top on it and [told him] 'Yeah, it's definitely time for me to leave.'"

Lakers coach Luke Walton didn't announce his starting lineup for the Rockets game. "Still thinking about it," he said. Lou Williams, who leads the league in scoring (18.4) off the bench, could move into the starting lineup. Williams has scored 78 points the last two games off the bench.

Jets QB Ryan Fitzpatrick didn't want to comment on how Todd Bowles botched the execution of the quarterback change. Fitzpatrick and Bowles met this morning. Bowles explained the demotion. "I want to be out there playing," Fitzpatrick told ESPN.com. "I'm a competitor, I want to play, but that's the decision they made. Now my role is to help Bryce (Petty) as much as I can."

Only one player did not practice for the San Diego Chargers on Wednesday, cornerback Brandon Flowers (concussion). LB Jatavis Brown returned to practice after missing the last four games with a knee issue. Brown was a limited participant. DE Joey Bosa (knee), WR Dontrelle Inman (ankle), S Dwight Lowery (hand) and WR Tyrell Williams (shoulder) were all full participants.

Florida State running back Dalvin Cook said he sent away to the NFL draft advisory board to see where he could possibly be drafted. Cook said he was going to wait until after the Capital One Orange Bowl against Michigan before making a decision on his future.

LeBron James, who averages 28.5 career points per game and has two triple-doubles at Madison Square Garden, came off the court after warmup not too long ago pouring sweat, looking focused and rapping along to Jay Z's '99 Problems.' Looks and sound like a problem for the Knicks, who won't have Derrick Rose (back).

Getting ready for No. 1 Notre Dame vs No. 2 Connecticut in South Bend. ND point guard Lindsay Allen is 114-2 as a starter against teams other than UConn in her career. And 0-4 vs the Huskies.

Lucas Giolito rejoins my top 100 starting pitchers following the trade, checking in 93rd. It's a bad park for a pitcher, but his odds of breaking camp in the rotation improved, and he'll have a pitching coach (Don Cooper) who can help him adjust.
