Chelsea spoil Mourinho's return

Jose Mourinho grew familiar with defeat at Stamford Bridge last season, but he didn't experience anything as bad as Manchester United's 4-0 throttling upon his return to Chelsea.

"They went through us like Swiss cheese on that opening drive," head coach Dirk Koetter said of Chip Kelly's 49ers offense. As far as Jacquizz Rodgers, he said, "Man, just Google Oregon State vs. USC."

The Panthers (1-5) moved within 2 1/2 games of the Falcons (4-3) in the NFC South with San Diego's 33-30 overtime win at Atlanta. Maybe this is 2014 all over again.

LeGarrette Blount's return to Pittsburgh, where he played in 2014, was a successful one as he finished with 24 carries for 127 yards and 2 TDs in the Patriots' 27-16 hard-fought victory over the Steelers. The Patriots didn't make it easy for themselves with some uncharacteristic drops and turnovers, but Blount's hard-charging running – and some big plays from tight end Rob Gronkowski in the second half – were enough to get the job done.

Patriots beat Steelers 27-16. The ViewFromVegas is they also covered as 7.5-point road favorites. The game, played with Landry Jones at QB for Pittsburgh in place of the injured Ben Roethlisberger, stayed under the total of 50.5 points. It was also the first game this week in which a home underdog didn't cover (Philadelphia, Miami and Detroit all pulled outright upsets as home 'dogs).

The Bucs overcame a 14-0 deficit in the first quarter to beat the 49ers 34-17. Quarterback Jameis Winston threw three touchdown passes and Jacquizz Rodgers rushed for his second-straight 100-yard game. The defense may have produced their best game, allowing just a field goal in the second half.

After jumping to a 14-0 lead, the San Francisco 49ers reverted to the form of the past five weeks, allowing 27 unanswered points on the way to a 34-17 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday. All of the hallmarks of the Niners' six-game losing streak were present: abysmal run defense, costly turnovers, inconsistent offensive production and even a slew of injuries. The Niners are now 1-6 as they head into the bye week of what is already a lost season.

Cardinals WR John Brown is inactive against the Seahawks three days after it was discovered he carries the sickle-cell trait. Coach Bruce Arians said Friday the decision on Brown's status for tonight was going to be determined by how Brown felt pregame.

Kevin Seifert NFL Nation

Mike Tomlin's decision to kick there rather than go for it on fourth-and-three is a reminder that, despite his propensity to be aggressive at times, he does not coach with a classic analytic bent. Tomlin goes for two when he thinks his offense is dominating, and the same is true for fourth downs. He doesn't trust Landry Jones as much as Ben Roethlisberger, clearly, even given the difficulty of a 54-yard field goal.

The following Seahawks are inactive for tonight's game: RB C.J. Spiller, S Kam Chancellor, RB Thomas Rawls, LB Kevin Pierre-Louis, OL Rees Odhiambo, TE Luke Willson and DL Quinton Jefferson. That means rookie RB C.J. Prosise will play and could see snaps on third down.

Cardinals inactives: WR John Brown, CB Brandon Williams, LB Gabe Martin, G Cole Toner, DT Olsen Pierre, DT Xavier Williams, DT Ed Stinson.

Matt Ryan went over 200 passing yards for the 46th consecutive game to set a new NFL record. Ryan surpassed Dan Fouts. But then Ryan threw a key interception with his team leading, 30-27.

The 49ers scored their first points of the second half, a Phil Dawson field goal with 8:08 to play to trim Tampa Bay's lead to 27-17. Given how things have gone since the first quarter, it's hard to imagine the defense getting the needed stops or the offense getting the points needed to put together a comeback, let alone both of those happening in tandem.

Mike Reiss ESPN Staff Writer

With 11:44 remaining in the fourth quarter, Patriots RB LeGarrette Blount has 109 yards on 19 carries and 2 TDs. Blount is playing his first game in Pittsburgh since the 2014 season when he was a member of the Steelers. His time with the team ended abruptly as he walked off the field before one game ended.

Matt Bowen ESPN Staff Writer

Melvin Gordon scored his third touchdown of the day on a blown coverage from the Falcons in the deep red zone. Quick throw to the flat from Phillip Rivers. But that shouldn't happen given Gordon's pre-snap alignment. When the RB moves to a wider alignment in the backfield (on the outside leg of the tackle), it should be an automatic alert to the flat route. Chargers are now down 30-27 in the fourth quarter.

Bucs quarterback Jameis Winston is now 5 of 11 targeting Mike Evans in the end zone this season. He was 2 of 15 last year, per ESPN Stats & Info. They've worked to improve their chemistry and it's showing, especially without Vincent Jackson. Mike Evans is playing like a true No. 1 receiver.

Antonio Brown, who rarely misses a play, with a trainer during offensive drive. Appears holding his left hip.

Tom Brady threw a dime to Rob Gronkowski on the seam route for a 36-yard score. Ball on the upfield shoulder. And the route was classic Gronkowski. Vertical release with a quick outside stick move to create separation over the top of the defender. Patriots now up 20-13 over the Steelers in the third quarter.

Mike Reiss ESPN Staff Writer

Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski tied the franchise record with his 68th career touchdown, with a 36-yard scoring grab up the seam in the third quarter. He ties WR Stanley Morgan's record, as he now has 67 receiving TDs and 1 rushing TD.

Eric D. Williams ESPN Staff Writer

Chargers DE Joey Bosa with his second, two-sack performance in just three games. Bosa's tied for the team lead in sacks with Melvin Ingram with four.

Injury bug attacking the 49ers hard here in the third quarter. After losing DT Arik Armstead to a shoulder issue, LB Gerald Hodges, CB Rashard Robinson and LB Aaron Lynch have all departed with various ailments though none have been ruled out to return.

Mike Reiss ESPN Staff Writer

The momentum of the Patriots-Steelers game swung in the direction of the Steelers on a late-second quarter drop by Patriots receiver Julian Edelman on third down. After the play, the Patriots failed to down a punt at the 6 as it became a touchback. The Steelers drove for a field goal before the half to close to 14-10. The Patriots came out slow at the start of the second half and the Steelers then drove for a field goal to close to 14-13 with 8:44 remaining in the third quarter.

Nick Wagoner ESPN Staff Writer

49ers DT Arik Armstead has been battling a shoulder injury all season and now appears to be in even more pain. He was down on the sideline holding the shoulder and getting more medical attention. His return is questionable.

Tristan H. Cockcroft ESPN Senior Writer

Mike Evans is already more than halfway to his career high of 168 fantasy points through only SIX games, and he's already within 50 of his entire 2015 total.
