He has the ability to be an elite player in this league but this is the season he needs to elevate his game. The Avalanche need him to be that type of player in order for the team to have success.

"I won't catch any of those guys," Fitzgerald said. "I don't plan on playing that long to catch those guys." Fitzgerald moved into third on the list during Sunday's win over Washington. He currently needs 220 to pass Gonzalez and 444 to pass Rice. But Fitzgerald insisted Thursday's comment wasn't a retirement announcement.

Added that he expects Houston to make an announcement about its head-coaching search soon. Saban said he and and the team are supportive of Lane if he were to move on to be a head coach somewhere else. Said a decision on if Kiffin will coach through the College Football Playoff will be made "when we have a decision to make."
