USC offensive coordinator Tee Martin on the depth difference with this year's offense as opposed to recent versions: "At times when you're not deep, the defense can see what you're capable of doing in the first drive, like, 'OK, that's it.' Now, when you're rolling in backups and guys are staying fresh, that's the best part I'm feeling. When the [backups] go in, it's like a different speed and different strengths because they're fresh. In the past, we had players that had to get every rep in practice and every rep in games."

Dolphins DT Ndamukong Suh will be a good test for the Falcons offensive line tonight. We will see how long the starters face each other.

Jets starting RT Breno Giacomini, on the PUP list with a back injury, addressed the media for the first time. He said he suffered a lower-back injury in June minicamp. He claimed to be making progress, but admitted he's at only "80 percent speed" right now. He didn't sound optimistic about opening Day, admitting regular-season PUP is a possibility. That would shelve him a minimum of six games. The original prognosis was six to eight weeks, from what I understand. Ben Ijalana and Brent Qvale are rotating at the position, but they're looking outside the organization as well, Todd Bowles said.

Former Dodgers catcher A.J. Ellis, on his trade Thursday to the Phillies: It's a really, really sad day for me and a really sad day for my family. One of the things I was most proud of was being a Dodger for my entire career."

There's a Mike Pouncey sighting on the field during warmups. He's out for at least the preseason with a left hip injury. The Dolphins need him back sooner than later.

Devon Allen is back with the Ducks and transitioning from track-shape to football-shape. With how deep the Oregon wide receiver corps are this year it's not necessary for the Ducks to rush him back but he'll certainly be a big boost to the unit when he's ready full go. W

Jets WR Brandon Marshall reflected on the 2015 offseason, when he practiced with Ryan Fitzpatrick for the first time. "He was terrible, he really was," Marshall said. "He was coming off a broken leg. There was a 5-yard hitch route and he'd throw it in the dirt. Everybody felt that way. We were like, 'What the heck? If Geno (Smith) goes down, we're in trouble.' That's how everybody felt. But he proved us wrong. He's pretty good."

Phoenix Suns players Devin Booker, Tyler Ulis, Marquese Chriss and Alan Williams took in the Arizona Cardinals' training camp practice on Thursday at University of Phoenix Stadium. They watched warm-ups from the field and then sat in the stands, where they heard from Cardinals president Michael Bidwill, GM Steve Keim and former safety and current scout Adrian Wilson.
