Reds manager Bryan Price's attempt to challenge whether Yadier Molina's game-winning double should have been a ground-rule double -- which would have kept the winning run at third -- is too late, as the Cardinals win a crucial game.

Andy Dalton and A.J. Green teamed up for 173 receiving yards in Thursday's win over the Dolphins. According to Elias, they have the second-most yards by a QB/WR duo who were drafted in the same year (both were taken in 2011) by the same team since 1980. Dan Marino/Mark Clayton (1983 draft) accounted for 8,469 yards and Andrew Luck/T.Y. Hilton (2012 draft) accounted for 4,131 yards.

Mets and Cardinals fans need not worry. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said his club plans on playing the Giants hard this weekend with playoff implications present. At question, though, would be how long starters Clayton Kershaw and Rich Hill are extended in their outings.

With 10 strikeouts so far through six innings, Johnny Cueto becomes the third straight Giants starter to record 10+ K's -- the first time they've done that since 1975. More importantly, the game is 2-2. Win, and the Giants remain a game up on the Cardinals; lose and they're tied as the Dodgers come to San Fran for the final series.

Mariners tied 1-1 with Oakland in sixth inning of pretty much a must-win game. After Baltimore beat Toronto, Seattle is currently down 2 1/2 games in wild card race and a loss tonight would mean they would have to go 3-0 and hope Blue Jays or O's go 0-3 rest of way to tie. Oh, and Tigers would have to lose some as well.

Crazy ending in St. Louis. With Matt Carpenter on first base, Yadier Molina hits what appeared to be a ground-rule double, but Carpenter beats the throw home. By the time Reds manager Bryan Price decides to protest -- was he asleep? -- the umpires have left the field and the game is over. Terrible, terrible job there by Price.

QB Ryan Tannehill has to do a better job of managing the pocket, but this Dolphins offensive line was handled tonight by the Bengals front-four pass rush. I expected more RPOs (run-pass options) and three-step routes in the Miami game plan to get the ball out quicker.

NFL

James Walker ESPN Staff Writer

The Dolphins simply didn't have enough offense to compete with the Bengals, who won Thursday's game, 22-7. Quarterback Ryan Tannehill threw a 74-yard touchdown pass to receiver Kenny Stills on the first drive and mostly stalled the rest of the game. Miami's defense couldn't cover Bengals receiver A.J. Green with its shaky cornerbacks. Green dominated Miami corners Tony Lippett and Xavien Howard with 10 receptions for 173 yards and a touchdown.

Sidney Crosby wins World Cup MVP honors. Brad Marchand also deserved consideration. This was the best Crosby has looked in a best-on-best international tournament from start to finish. He won Conn Smythe in June, World Cup MVP now and has to be considered Hart Trophy favorite heading into this NHL season. Incredible run of hockey from the game's best player.

Have to question the throw from Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill on the interception. With the Bengals dropping to Cover 2 at the snap, Tannehill should see Bengals DB Chris Lewis-Harris as the underneath defender. Lewis-Harris is coached up to drop between the numbers and the hash. Get depth and read the QB. There wasn't an open window in the zone coverage for Tannehill to throw that ball. Bad decision with the Dolphins down 22-7 in the fourth quarter.
