Statement from Eagles linebacker Myke Tavarres, via his agent: "I want to apologize for the distraction I've become to all of Eagle Nation. I feel passionate about racial issues going on in our country and I thought that sitting during the National Anthem would bring more awareness to this issue and encourage more constructive discussion to find solutions, but I feel I only made things worse. I want to make change in this world, but sitting down during the national anthem just isn't the best way to do it. With that being said, I do plan on finding a better way. I'm young and I still have a lot to learn about saying and doing the right thing. For now, I will stay focused on football; but I will definitely look for opportunities to do what I can to prevent injustices. I am so blessed to be an American and I just feel a responsibility to do what I can to make things better."

The Cardinals have rallied to beat the Brewers, so the Mets will remain 2.5 games behind St. Louis for the second wild-card spot. With Yoenis Cespdes' walk-off homer, the Mets did catch Miami in the standings.

Michael Pineda settled down after his bad first inning, throwing five hitless innings before surrendering hits to the first two batters he faced in the seventh. Both wound up scoring when reliever Blake Parker gave up a 3-run HR to Alcides Escobar. Pineda's final line-- 6+ IP, 7H, 5ER -- raised his ERA to 5.12 and put him in a position to drop to 6-11 for the season.

Red Sox win their kind of game, taking an early lead and playing comfortably from ahead thanks to good enough starting pitching. In this case, Rick Porcello gives up three runs in seven innings and notches his 18th win in a 9-4 victory over the Rays. Boston remains two games off Toronto's pace in the AL East.

The stats suggest Novak Djokovic should be well ahead in his match against Jerzy Janowicz -- except one key number: Djokovic has capitalized on only three of 12 break-point opportunities, which has kept his opponent in this match.

Dodgers are undecided if they are going to bring up Yasiel Puig on Sept 1 or later in Sept so he can get more consistent at-bats at AAA for his development. However, their tentative plan is for him to be back with Dodgers this year. It is also unlikely that Puig clears waivers and even more unlikely he's traded, at least until the off-season. According to a league source the Dodgers put close to 20 players on waivers this past weekend like almost every other club does this time of year.
