BOX SCORE

AUSTIN, Texas -- Roy Williams caught a 96-yard touchdown pass and Kenny Hayter rushed for 122 yards against the nation's toughest run defense as No. 13 Texas beat Oklahoma State 42-7.

Major Applewhite passed for 291 yards and three touchdowns to lead Texas (3-1, 1-0 Big 12).

On the day the school retired former Heisman Trophy winner Ricky Williams' jersey, the Longhorns overcame a sluggish first half that included a blocked punt to produce its best offensive game of the season.

Reggie White led Oklahoma State (2-2, 0-1) with 104 yards rushing, most of them coming on a 69-yard run in the first quarter.

Williams' touchdown catch broke open a 10-7 game in the third quarter. On third-and-14, Williams broke behind the secondary and Applewhite, who had been sacked one play earlier, laid out a soft pass for him to run under down the right sideline.

Williams, whose 36-yard catch in the second quarter set up Texas' first touchdown, set a Longhorns freshman record with 175 yards on five receptions.

Oklahoma State came into the game ranked No. 1 against the run, allowing just 30.3 yards per game. With Hayter pounding the ball up the middle, Texas finished with a season-high 205 yards rushing.

After a fumble by Oklahoma State quarterback Tony Lindsay led to Kris Stockton's 20-yard field goal, Applewhite found Artie Ellis for 21-yard touchdown pass to put Texas ahead 26-7.

In the fourth quarter, Applewhite connected with Montrell Flowers from 2 yards out and Ivan Williams added a late touchdown run for the Longhorns.

Texas took a long time to get its offense going. The Longhorns had trouble moving the ball early and managed just one first-quarter first down. The Longhorns led 3-0 after Stockton's 44-yard field goal, but failed to score an offensive touchdown in the first quarter for the seventh straight game.

The Texas defense, however, was dominant early. Oklahoma State started drives inside Texas territory four times and came away with only one touchdown, a 9-yard run by White in the second quarter after the Cowboys blocked a Texas punt.

Cowboys kicker Seth Condley missed a 32-yard field goal attempt in the first quarter and had a 38-yarder blocked on the last play of the half.

Leading 7-3, Oklahoma State had a chance to increase its lead when the Cowboys stuffed a Texas fake punt on the Longhorns' 38. But after two short runs by White and an incomplete pass, Oklahoma State was forced to punt.

Texas also got an early break when a Cowboys interception return to inside the Longhorns 10 was negated by a personal foul.
