ABC Sports Online

Some notes from the 1973 MNF season:

  • Road teams went 8-5 in 1972, including winning the first five Monday Night efforts, but in 1973, home teams picked it up, going 11-1-1. The Miami Dolphins were the only road team to win.

  • O.J. Simpson made his Monday Night debut in '73, gaining 157 yards on a team-record 39 attempts in the Bills' 23-14 win over the Chiefs. Simpson finished the season with 2,003 yards -- the first rusher in NFL history to reach that mark.
