Some notes from the 1974 MNF season:

  • In its fifth year, the third change of announcers took place, as Don Meredith left and was replaced by former Detroit Lions lineman Alex Karras, who had established himself as an actor with his role of "Mongo" in Blazing Saddles. Also, Fred Williamson was added as a sideline reporter.

    *Philadelphia's Joe Lavender returned a fumble 96 yards for a touchdown to set a Monday Night record.

    *At the time, the Kansas City-Denver game (76 points) was the highest-scoring game in MNF history. Denver QB Charley Johnson threw for a then-MNF record 445 yards in the Broncos' losing effort.
