Colts send Baker to Rams for draft pick
Associated Press

ST. LOUIS -- The St. Louis Rams released punter Rick Tuten and linebacker Troy Pelshak Tuesday to get below the NFL roster limit, while they acquired punter John Baker.

The Super Bowl champion Rams traded an undisclosed draft pick to the Indianapolis Colts for Baker. He is an undrafted rookie from the University of North Texas, had seven punts in four exhibition games for a 43.6 yard average. His longest was a 56-yarder and his net punting average was 34.1.

Baker was signed in an effort to push last year's punter Hunter Smith, who averaged 48.2 yards and netted 41.7 in 10 punts during the preseason.

On Monday, the Rams cut punter Louie Aguiar, a nine-year veteran. Aguiar had averaged 37.7 yards on seven punts in the preseason.

The Rams still have to cut 12 more players to reach the NFL league limit of 53 by Sunday afternoon.
