ABC Sports agrees to deal with Formula One

ABC Sports has reached a one-year agreement with Formula One for the network to broadcast four races in 2002. The announcement was made Monday by Howard Katz, president of ABC Sports, and Bernie Ecclestone of Formula One.

"We are thrilled to expand our coverage of Formula One racing on ABC Sports," said Howard Katz. "We look forward to bringing Formula One the attention it deserves. Coupled with our IRL coverage, including the Indy 500, ABC is now the home to the world's top open-wheel circuits."

Bernie Ecclestone said: "After the success in the ABC broadcast of the USA round of the FIA Formula One World Championship, I am very pleased to have more rounds of the World Championship broadcast on ABC Sports."

Under the agreement, ABC Sports will televise four Formula One races, beginning with the Grand Prix of Monaco on Sunday, May 26 (3:30 p.m.), considered one of the most glamorous of all Grand Prix races. The Monaco race, which features a prestigious international field led by four-time world champion Michael Schumacher, will follow ABC's coverage of the world's greatest auto race, the Indianapolis 500 (11 a.m.).

ABC Sports' telecast schedule of Formula One also includes The Canadian Grand Prix on June 9 (12:30 p.m.), the Italian Grand Prix on September 14 (1 p.m.) and the US Grand Prix on September 29 (1:30 p.m.).  HELP |  ADVERTISER INFO |  CONTACT US |  TOOLS |  SITE MAP
