Donna de Varona rejoins ABC Sports

Two-time Olympic gold medalist and Emmy Award-winner Donna de Varona has rejoined ABC Sports as a commentator/reporter and will assist ABC Sports and the ABC Television Network in its dealings with the United States Olympic Committee, International Sports federations and International Olympic Committee.

The ABC Television Network is very pleased to have reached an agreement with Ms. de Varona which settles their disputes and represents a renewal of a long and productive relationship.

"Donna is an accomplished broadcaster with a wealth of sports television experience. I am very pleased that she has returned to her broadcast home and will be available for her incisive on-air commentary and for our efforts with the IOC, USOC and international sports federations," said ABC Sports president Howard Katz.

"I am happy we have settled our differences and look forward to returning to ABC. I am eager to resume my work both on-camera and in an advisory role with ABC Sports and Howard Katz, whom I have known since the beginning of my broadcasting career," said Ms. de Varona.

Ms. de Varona became ABC Sports' first full-time woman television sportscaster when she joined the Network in 1965. During her 34 years with the Network she served as host, co-host, reporter and analyst for many of ABC's premier events, including the 1968, 1972, 1976, 1984 and 1996 Summer Olympics and the 1984, 1988 and 1994 Winter Olympics.

Ms. de Varona won two gold medals at the 1964 Tokyo Olympic Games and was voted the Most Outstanding Female Athlete in the world by AP and UPI that year.  HELP |  ADVERTISER INFO |  CONTACT US |  TOOLS |  SITE MAP
