Fisher looking forward to new engine
By Sarah Fisher
Special to ABC Sports Online

We're well into the busy part of our IRL Indy Car season and we can see a very bright light at the end of the tunnel for the Dreyer & Reinbold team and my No. 23 GMAC/AOL/Chevy/Dallara/Firestone car.

Best start: 1st (Kentucky, 8/11/02)
Best finish: 2nd (Homestead, 4/8/01)

What's so exciting for us and the rest of the Chevrolet teams is that the Firestone Indy 400 race at Michigan International Speedway just ended and the Chevy Gen IV engine made its debut. Pennzoil Panther racing driver Sam Hornish Jr. finished in second place -- and he led most of the race laps.

What's great about his finish is that our team will get the same engine at the Kentucky Speedway race, where we sat on the pole in 2002, so we're excited about the potential to be a front runner again.

Our race schedule for the next month is pretty busy, with four races in five weeks. What I really like about this part of the schedule is that I'm able to drive from my home in Indianapolis to all of these race tracks, since they are all within five hours of home, and my new Chevy TrailBlazer is a seriously smart car to drive. Make sure to check my Web site ( in the upcoming weeks for a chance to win tickets to these upcoming Midwest races.

We were able to test at St. Louis last week and were within tenths of the other cars there. This was our first test since the beginning of the season and I hope that we'll be able to show how prepared we are when we go back to St. Louis on Aug. 10 for the race.

Fortunately, we have been shifting gears for the majority of the races we have been in, so we should be well prepared for the tight corners and long straights that require at least four shifts a lap. Even though we won't have the Gen IV engine for St. Louis, it should still be a closer race then what we just came away from.

Next weekend we are off and I'm heading out of town for a short vacation -- after that, I hope to see you at the race track!
