Freeskiing Championships hits Colorado

The longest running big mountain event goes down, Feb. 16-21.

The four days of competition will take skiers to the natural hazards and solitude of the Extreme Limits where a field of over a 150 competitors will charge down super-technical steeps with pitches from 35-45 degrees, ultimately determining the 2010 Subaru U.S. Extreme Freeskiing Champion.

"Sponsoring the Freeskiing World Tour is a natural fit for Subaru,"notes Tim Mahoney, senior vice president and chief marketing officer, Subaru of America, Inc. "Subaru owners tend to be lovers of the outdoors and our vehicles are undaunted by winter weather and snowy mountain passes."

With the Extremes, athletes are heading into the fourth stop on the 2010 Subaru FWT, charging on terrain most skiers consider untouchable. It is every competitor's goal to ski away with this crown jewel of championship titles. Some of the country's top extreme and elite winter athletes, names such as, Kim Reichhelm, Kristin Ulmer, Dave "Swany" Swanwick, Seth Morrison, Brant Moles, Shane McConkey, Noel Lyons, Alison Gannett, Wendy Fisher and Aaron Estrada - all entered past competitions as unknowns or up-and-comers and distinguished themselves by taking top honors in the U.S. Extremes.

Crested Butte is recognized as the home to some of the countries top extreme and elite winter athletes, names such as Seth Morrison and Wendy Fisher pioneers of big mountain skiing are synonymous with the Butte. On any day you can find yourself skiing runs with a number of skiing legends or new school superstars. It is easy to see why so many young people are attracted to the scene in CB. The mountain has some of the easiest access to what is considered to be the country's best steeps where you can find classic bowl skiing or unexplored lines on every run.

Mountain Sports International (MSI) is proud to partner with CBMR as this is the company's former home. MSI will be producing a live webcast of the finals and posting comprehensive same-day video coverage on other days, in addition to photos, stories, and profiles. After Crested Butte, Colorado, the Subaru FWT continues onto the famed Cirque at Kirkwood, California. Long known as the premier venue on the Subaru FWT, Snowbird Ski and Summer Resort will host the 2010 Subaru Freeskiing World Championships, with the tour leaders battling for top positions in the final runs of the year down the infamous North Baldy.
