On Thursday, Vans announced the names of those expected to participate in the Joel Tudor Duct Tape Invitational on Thursday, October 14, and Friday, October 15, in Montauk, N.Y., at Ditch Plains on the eastern most tip of Long Island.
The contest, according to a Vans press release, was "[i]ntroduced in August at the East Coast Surfing Championships in Virginia Beach," Virginia. Contestants are required to surf single-fin longboards, weighing no less than twelve pounds, and ride without a leash. Judging will be based on "serious style and nose riding," says Vans. The prize purse for the event is $10,000.
"The Duct Tape Invitational is special because it shows longboarding the way it should be," says contest director and Vans team rider Joel Tudor. "It also highlights some of my favorite young loggers, guys that represent the next generation of longboarding."
