Ouch, that hurt ...

Welcome back to the House of Pain.

Today we reveal games tanked 21-30, and believe it or not, it didn't always hurt to be a Duke football fan.

The Blue Devils had one of college football's greatest teams in 1939 -- unbeaten, untied and unscored upon. Until the fourth quarter of the Rose Bowl against USC.

Florida State fans are also feeling some pain today, as we remember the 26-25 loss to Miami. The Seminoles allowed 23 unanswered points. They were still in it, though, and with 42 seconds remaining, Bobby Bowden went for the two-point conversion and the win.

You know how that story ends -- with another national title for the Canes.

Boston College is in the mix today with a 55-12 loss to Holy Cross. The Eagles were No. 1 in the country and lost to a 4-4-1 team in Fenway Park. They canceled a premature "victory party" which turned out to be a smart move -- the club burned down that night and killed almost 500 people.

On the flip side, Clemson gets the last laugh today for inflicting some pain on Ohio State in a 17-15 win in 1978. It was the Tigers who helped end the career of Woody Hayes. Clemson, though, is one of those programs that seems to find itself in painful situations more than others. The Tigers have some good company, though, in Miami.
