Virginia Tech starting left tackle Nick Becton, a redshirt sophomore who won the starting job this past spring, has turf toe and will be out for about two weeks or until it heals, a school spokesman confirmed today.
Some of you might remember this was a nagging injury that drove former Clemson running back C.J. Spiller nuts for a large part of last season. Becton really gained the confidence of the coaching staff this offseason, and it was an important performance, as it was a position of concern. Redshirt junior Andrew Lanier is Becton's backup. He was Blake DeChristopher's backup at right tackle last year, when he played in nine games.
