One of the biggest areas of concern for Maryland coach Ralph Friedgen heading into this fall was the uncertainty in the administration. Maryland took care of part of that this week when it hired a new university president, Wallace D. Loh.
The next step is to hire an athletic director, a move that will help determine Friedgen's future with the program. Friedgen told Patrick Stevens of D1scourse.com that he is happy Loh comes from a school with a "good football tradition."
If Iowa is the standard here, Friedgen's in trouble. The only thing he can worry about, though, is winning. Only when the athletic director is hired will we know how much he'll have to win to keep his job, but I'd guess it's at least seven games.
