Boston College athletic director Gene DeFilippo's contract has been extended through May 2014, the school announced on Monday.
Since DeFilippo was hired in 1997, BC's high graduation rates have been worth bragging about, as are consistent bowl appearances, and back-to-back appearances in the ACC championship game. Facilities and fundraising have both improved during his tenure.
While there has been a revolving door for football coaches in Chestnut Hill lately, DeFilippo has been the constant, and if all goes as he has planned, that should become the norm now that Frank Spaziani has been named head coach.
DeFilippo has managed to be in the middle of some of college football's biggest headlines -- BC joining the ACC, the departure of Tom O'Brien, and the firing of Jeff Jagodzinski. He's quietly made improvements, though, that have also helped define his tenure there.
