Less than a month after he was hired to coach North Carolina's defensive line, Brian Baker has decided to take the same position with the Dallas Cowboys, according to a source familiar with the situation.
Baker coached the past two seasons as the defensive line coach of the Carolina Panthers. He was a good fit for UNC and the ACC, as he played linebacker at Maryland in the early 1980s and coached 11 seasons at Maryland and Georgia Tech. He was in the NFL for the past 15 seasons, though.
"Brian is regarded as one of the top defensive line coaches in the NFL and his experience was appealing because of his background as a college coach in the ACC," coach Butch Davis said in a prepared statement at the time of Baker's hire. "He is an excellent communicator and his knowledge of our recruiting areas was critical."
