UNC releases Delvon Simmons

It's official -- and not entirely unexpected, though there's always more to the story.

North Carolina has released defensive lineman Delvon Simmons from his national letter of intent, the school announced on Wednesday. Simmons originally signed with the Tar Heels on National Signing Day, Feb. 2, 2011.

“We have granted Delvon Simmons his release and allowed him to pursue other options,” coach Butch Davis told reporters Wednesday prior to Carolina’s first spring practice, according to the school's release.
