My preseason ballot: VT does it again

Posted by ESPN.com's Heather Dinich

The preseason ballots were passed out today, and I believe in full disclosure, unless we're talking to Tim Tebow. So, here's how I voted:

1. Florida State

2. NC State

3. Clemson

4. Wake Forest

5. Maryland

6. Boston College

1. Virginia Tech

2. Georgia Tech

3. Miami

4. North Carolina

5. Duke

6. Virginia

ACC championship game winner: Virginia Tech

Preseason ACC Player of the Year: C.J. Spiller

The results we be distributed tomorrow.

When it comes to picking the Atlantic Division winner, media members have been swinging in the dark. We've picked FSU to win it three of the past four years, and only in 2005 were the Noles co-champs. Last year, everyone collectively blew it with Clemson (including Clemson), which finished tied for third place.

The Hokies, however, have lived up to their preseason billing. Virginia Tech has been picked by the media to win the division in three of the past four seasons,, and they have. The lone exception was in 2006, when Miami was picked to win the Coastal Division but placed fourth and Georgia Tech met Wake Forest in the title game.

The Coastal Division, though, is getting to be the trickier of the two divisions to predict, and a large part of that has to do with the new coaches who have come in and given it an upgrade. Paul Johnson, Butch Davis and "Randy the Recruiter" will make this year's race anyone's game.

Overall, the media is 19-12-2 when picking the preseason winner. Only once, though, has Virginia Tech been picked to win it all -- in 2007. We'll find out if that changes on Monday.
