Early Top 25

The 2011 "College Football Live" Preseason Top 25 will air on April 18, and as a voter in ESPN.com's weekly Power Ranking during the season, I submitted my version to the show. Many things can and will change between now and the start of the season, as there will be a lot to watch in summer camp, but as of now, here is my preseason Top 25:

1. Oklahoma

2. Oregon

3. Alabama

4. LSU

5. Stanford

6. Oklahoma State

7. Boise State

8. Florida State

9. South Carolina

10. Ohio State

11. Arkansas

12. Texas A&M

13. Virginia Tech

14. Notre Dame

15. Wisconsin

16. TCU

17. Nebraska

18. Michigan State

19. Auburn

20. Arizona State

21. Texas

22. Mississippi State

23. Florida

24. Georgia

25. West Virginia

  • The obvious: Yes, I think Florida State is a top-10 team this year. No, I don't think the Noles are better than the Sooners -- yet.

  • The forecast: Virginia Tech and Florida State will again be the favorites to play for the ACC championship game and the league's only two ranked teams in the majority of preseason polls.

  • First to join: Clemson. The Tigers have a lot of questions to answer, but a strong start could snowball into a special season.

  • Best race to watch: Florida State and Clemson in the Atlantic Division. On Sept. 24, it's the game to watch.

  • Last man standing: Florida State. The Noles will avenge last year's loss to the Hokies in this year's ACCCG.

  • The prediction: Yes, Virginia Tech will have another 10-win season. As long as it doesn't trip up against East Carolina in an otherwise soft nonconference schedule, there's no reason not to.

  • The unpredictable: Miami and North Carolina. Your guess is as good as mine.
