Separation occuring in the Atlantic Division

One of the most frequent questions I get from Maryland fans is whether or not first-year coach Randy Edsall can make their Terps a contender in the Atlantic Division.

My answer is always the same: Sure, as long as he can recruit similar talent to Florida State and Clemson.

The same can be said for Boston College. And NC State. And Wake Forest.

Clemson beat writer Travis Sawchik made a great point in his blog recently: Those schools aren't closing the gap. Florida State and Clemson are widening it with their recent recruiting efforts.

Say what you will about Dabo Swinney's ability to X and O, but there's no question the man can recruit. He's done one of the best jobs in the country -- even before he became the head coach. And Jimbo Fisher's staff is recruiting like it's 1999.

The pressure is on for Fisher and Swinney to translate their top talent into wins, but the more difficult task will be for the rest of division to beat them without it.
