That blog entry I wrote this morning about Virginia Tech's passing game got me curious about just how "normal" last year's passing average was when compared with Frank Beamer's teams of the past. It's not like the program has always been young and inexperienced, right?
As it turns out, last year's average of 129.1 passing yards per game was the fewest under Frank Beamer since his first season, when the Hokies averaged 125.7 in 1987. They were 2-9 that year.
Really, considering the youth on last year's roster, it's even more remarkable Virginia Tech pulled off another ACC title, which is why expectations are so much higher for the Hokies this fall. Still, I think Virginia Tech is one year away from elbowing its way even closer to the top of the BCS standings. The Hokies have a chance to be good this year, but they can be a great team in 2010.
