There finally appears to be some separation occurring among Virginia's four-man quarterback competition. Sophomore Michael Rocco has taken the lead in the race and true freshman David Watford will get extra reps so he can be better evaluated. Ross Metheny and Michael Strauss apparently have more work to do.
From The Washington Post:
But London made it clear -- even if he wouldn’t explicitly say so -- that Rocco has established himself as the front-runner to win the starting job.
From the Richmond Times-Dispatch:
"Michael Rocco is going to get the majority of the snaps," London said. "He's put himself in a position to do that."
Those are the boldest statements London has made so far regarding his choice for the starting quarterback, and it's good news for the program with the season only about three weeks away. Rocco played in six games last year, but he's thrown only 25 passes, has had two interceptions and one touchdown. It's not a done deal yet, but Virginia's quarterback competition is the clearest it has been this offseason.
