CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. -- As the only senior and returning starter in the Boston College secondary, cornerback Donnie Fletcher knows he has no choice but to be a leader this fall.
Just who will be following him at free safety, though, still remains a question following the dismissal of starting safety Okechukwu Okoroha for disciplinary reasons. Okoroha played in all 13 games last season and started six in place of the injured Wes Davis. He made 27 tackles (17 solo) on the year, and now his position is up for grabs.
“O’s one of my good friends, he’s like a brother to me,” Fletcher said. “But that’s something we can’t control as a secondary, as a unit. Those things we can’t control. A lot of young guys will get an opportunity to step up and take on that role. As a unit we’re still doing well, working hard and competing. Whoever gets the opportunity to play over there will do a good job and compete and play hard. That’s all I ask for as a leader, guys out there competing and working hard.”
