Halftime around the ACC

Here's a quick look at what's going on elsewhere right now in the ACC:

Vanderbilt 27, Wake Forest 7. Two words: Big plays. The Wake Forest defense has given up too many of them, including a 73-yard touchdown pass and a 20-yard touchdown run. Vanderbilt, which needs this win to become bowl eligible, is playing like it's on a mission, and the Deacs have had no answer in the first half. Vandy has controlled the clock, and Wake Forest has lost a fumble. Vanderbilt has also had a more effective passing game, and is running the ball well, which has allowed them to mix it up. The Deacs will have to rely on the arm of Tanner Price to get them back into in the second half, but the defense also has to wake up.

North Carolina 20, Duke 14. Again with the mistakes. Duke continues to beat itself with turnovers (two) and penalties (five). The Blue Devils aren't going to win if they don't have the ball long enough to score, and UNC has had it for just over 20 minutes of the first half. UNC has the advantage in the running game with Giovani Bernard, who has already surpassed the 100-yard mark, and has 126 yards and a touchdown on 19 carries. Duke's defense has to stop the run, and if it is going to continue to rely on the passing game (which it will), it can't afford to lose the turnover battle in the second half. The gap between these two teams clearly isn't that big, at least according to the score, but Duke can't afford to make it bigger with more mistakes in the second half.
