Boston College linebacker Luke Kuechly was one of four finalists named today for the Lott IMPACT Trophy, along with Emmanuel Acho (Texas), Dont'a Hightower (Alabama), and Manti Te'o (Notre Dame).
Named in honor of Ronnie Lott, the Lott IMPACT Trophy honors the national defensive player of the year who's had the biggest impact on his team, both on and off the field. The winner will be announced Dec. 11 in Newport Beach, Calif.
Kuechly was also recently named a finalist for the Bronko Nagurski Trophy, which is presented to the nation's most outstanding defensive player by the Charlotte TD Club.
We've been talking a lot today about ACCAwards, and on Tuesday afternoon, the league will announce the ACC's offensive, defensive and overall players of the year. If Kuechly doesn't win the defensive honor, or at least come close in the votes, it wouldn't only be a surprise, it would be a travesty. It doesn't matter that BC was 4-8 this year. He's still one of the best players in the country.
