Boston College linebacker Luke Kuechly has been named the ACC's Defensive Player of the Year by the Atlantic Coast Sports Media Association.
Kuechly, a junior, was named on 30 of 45 ballots. NC State cornerback David Amerson, the nation's leader in interceptions with 11, placed second with 14 and Duke safety Matt Daniels had the other vote.
Kuechly is the right choice. What he has accomplished in only three seasons has been remarkable, but even more impressive has been his humble demeanor, and his relentless desire to win. Kuechly's accomplishments always came second to the Eagles winning, which they didn't do often enough this fall. It's good to see that Kuechly's success wasn't overshadowed by his team's disappointing season. BC fans should hope he sticks around for another year, but as a likely first-round draft pick, it wouldn't make much sense for him to.
