ACC taking two steps back

Posted by ESPN.com's Heather Dinich

If Jacksonville State beats Florida State, and Maryland loses to JMU -- and both scenarios are currently in play as both ACC teams are losing in the third quarter -- then the ACC's 5-0 start today will be meaningless. This is a bad, bad situation for the conference considering how poorly both of those teams are playing right now.

Maryland quarterback Chris Turner threw an interception that JMU returned 62 yards for a touchdown, and the Terps trail 28-21 -- at home no less. And FSU is celebrating because Jacksonville State missed a field goal. The Noles can exhale because it's only 9-7.

What turned out as a good start to the day is ending in embarrassment. Even if Maryland and FSU regroup and come out on top, neither team will be taken seriously as a contender until they prove otherwise.
