Virginia lands former Tide QB Sims

Virginia made official Wednesday what had been expected earlier this week, landing former Alabama quarterback Phillip Sims.

Sims, a Chesepeake, Va.. native, will reunite with former high school teammates Perry Jones and Tim Smith, who together helped Oscar Smith High School win the 2008 Virginia Group AAA Division 6 State Championship. Sims left high school as ESPN's No. 1 quarterback recruit in the Class of 2010.

There is no word yet on whether Sims, who said the transfer was to support his family, will seek an appeal from the NCAA to play immediately. If so, the Cavaliers will have quite the quarterback load on their hands. They return junior starter Michael Rocco and sophomore David Watford this fall. Early enrollee Greyson Lambert and three-star 2012 recruit Matt Johns, who has yet to arrive on campus, will be on the roster this season as well.

Rocco will be entering his redshirt sophomore season in 2012 after losing the Crimson Tide quarterback battle to AJ McCarron last season.
