Chris Turner to start for Maryland; Steffy out 'indefinitely'

Maryland coach Ralph Friedgen said Chris Turner will start this weekend against Middle Tennessee State and Jordan Steffy is "out indefinitely" with an injured thumb.

"He had a ligament tore away from the bone is what they showed," Friedgen said. "They think it will be a minimum of three weeks."

Friedgen also said Josh Portis will play again.

Turner is No. 2 on the depth chart this season, but No. 1 in the eyes of Maryland fans.

As for how Turner has looked in practice this week?

"He's looked OK," Friedgen said.
