Ultimate ACC road trip: Week 11

Welcome back to the ACC’s ultimate road trip. In case you’re just joining us, this series is your ticket to each of the best games in the ACC every week. These are the games that -- if you had the money and the time -- you would want to be at this fall. The season is still a long way off, but here in the blogosphere, it’s a November to remember. Here’s a look at Week 11:

Saturday, Nov. 10

  • Notre Dame at Boston College

  • Maryland at Clemson

  • Georgia Tech at North Carolina

  • Miami at Virginia

  • Wake Forest at NC State

My choice: Wake Forest at NC State

Why: This is the game that will be the most meaningful to the ACC race this week, and it’s usually a good game-day atmosphere in Carter-Finley Stadium. The runner-up would be Georgia Tech at UNC, but because the Tar Heels aren’t eligible for the postseason, that particular matchup is less compelling. Wake Forest, on the other hand, beat NC State last year; it was an early division loss for the Wolfpack that was somewhat surprising and contributed to the 2-3 start to the season. NC State likely hasn’t forgotten that. Coach Tom O’Brien has been at his best in the second half of the season, and there’s a good chance both teams will be making a push for the Atlantic Division title. (This just in: FSU and Clemson haven’t won it all yet). NC State could use some momentum from a victory this weekend heading into its Nov. 17 game at Clemson. The same could be said for Wake Forest, which travels to Notre Dame the following week. The difference is that this will be the final league game of the season for the Deacs. If they’re not in the race to win the division, they’ve got a great chance to play the role of spoiler.
