Our friends over at ESPN Stats & Information have come up with their first conference power rankings now that the season is two weeks old.
So where does the ACC rank?
Better than a lot of people probably predicted.
The ACC is No. 4 this week, a smidge ahead of the more widely praised Big Ten. For those who need a quick refresher, ESPN Stats & Information uses a formula that equally weighs the AP rankings and a compilation of available BCS computer rankings in its calculations.
The ACC has three teams ranked in the AP top 13 and has a 15-3 nonconference record. None of those losses were to underdog teams. In fact, two were to ranked teams (Miami to Kansas State and Duke to Stanford) and the third was NC State to Tennessee. That result was disappointing, yes, but not unexpected as the Vols were the favorites to win.
The Big Ten, meanwhile, has gotten off to a rough start this season. That league is 2-7 against other BCS automatic-qualifier teams -- and both wins are by Northwestern. The ACC is 4-3 against teams from BCS conferences so far.
Take a gander at the complete rankings below.
