BOSTON COLLEGE: The last time the Eagles lost to one of the service academics was in 1998, when they fell 32-31 to Navy. BC’s football history is filled with milestones involving the service academies, including the inaugural game in Alumni Stadium (1957) that had been arranged with the assistance of then-U.S. Senator John F. Kennedy.

CLEMSON: Tajh Boyd has targeted DeAndre Hopkins 25 more times than any other Clemson player. Boyd is completing 79.2 percent of his passes and is averaging 11.4 yards per attempt when targeting Hopkins this season. ... Hopkins has 10 receptions for a first down on third down this season, second-most in FBS.

DUKE: After converting just nine of its first 50 (.180) third-down opportunities in the first 14 quarters to open the season, Duke has been successful on 18 of its last 26 (.692) chances over the past six quarters. ... Duke also has scored in 11 of its last 12 quarters dating back to the beginning of the N.C. Central game, while averaging 42 points per game over the current three-game winning streak.

FLORIDA STATE: Florida State has allowed 27.3 percent of its opponents’ plays to gain five or more yards this season. On the other side of the ball, FSU has gained five or more yards on 56.9 percent of its plays. Both numbers lead FBS.

GEORGIA TECH: Quarterback Tevin Washington has rushed for 11 touchdowns this season, including 10 over the last three games combined. His 11 rushing touchdowns are more than 89 FBS teams. No other current FBS quarterback has more than seven rushing touchdowns this season.

MARYLAND: The defense allowed 682 total yards to opponents through its first three games (William & Mary: 229, Temple: 230, Connecticut: 223). That marks its best defensive performance in a three-game span since 2004, when it held The Citadel (137), West Virginia (156) and Eastern Michigan (275) to a total of 568.

MIAMI: Stephen Morris has completed 10 passes thrown 20 yards or more downfield in his last two games. Morris had 13 such completions in his first 14 games at Miami. ... Duke Johnson is averaging a team-high 16.3 yards per play on screen passes this season, including a 50-yard touchdown against Bethune-Cookman. Johnson’s seven receptions on screens are tied for most on the Hurricanes this season.

NORTH CAROLINA: North Carolina set a single-game school record for points with 66 against Idaho. The previous record was 65 against Virginia Medical in 1914 and Wake Forest in 1928. It marks the 12th time in school history North Carolina has scored 60 or more points in a game. This is the first time the Tar Heels have scored 60 or more points twice in the same season.

NC STATE: This week’s game will mark the first time since 1998 that a top 5 team has visited Carter-Finley Stadium. That year, the unranked Pack beat the No. 2 ranked Seminoles 24-7. ... NC State has not allowed a point in the second quarter all season.

VIRGINIA: With 39 more receiving yards, Perry Jones will also become the fourth Cavalier in program history with 1,000 career yards receiving and 1,000 career yards receiving.

VIRGINIA TECH: The last time the Hokies lost a road conference opener was in 1962, a 3-0 defeat at William & Mary when the Hokies were in the Southern Conference. Virginia Tech is at North Carolina on Saturday.

WAKE FOREST: Maryland has held the upper hand recently in College Park, beating a ranked Wake Forest team 26-0 in 2008 and rolling to a 62-14 victory in 2010. The Deacons' last win at Maryland came during their 2006 ACC Championship season when a 38-24 victory clinched the Atlantic Division title.
