Status of Duke's Sean Renfree still uncertain

Duke’s offense took a hit last weekend before the Blue Devils even lined up against Florida State, as quarterback Sean Renfree was running a high fever long before he took a hard hit from Florida State safety Karlos Williams in the second quarter of the 48-7 loss to the Noles.

“I think the combination of two just threw him for a big loop,” coach David Cutcliffe said on Wednesday’s ACC teleconference. “A big hit, and he was already running a high fever, struggling. I was worried about him in pregame meal down there. He looked like he felt horrible.”

It got worse during the game when Renfree was diagnosed with a concussion. Cutcliffe said the fever stayed with Renfree through Monday evening. He didn’t practice with the team on Sunday night, and Cutcliffe said Renfree’s status for Saturday’s game against Clemson is still uncertain.

Cutcliffe also said that it’s not his call -- it’s up to the team doctors.

“Hopefully he passes all those tests and he says he feels good,” Cutcliffe said, “then we’ll be OK to go forward.”
