Virginia Tech athletic director Jim Weaver plans to step down next month for health reasons, the school announced Tuesday.
Weaver, 68, has served as athletic director since 1997. He's the second-longest tenured AD in the ACC. He has seen his health deteriorate in recent years after being diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in 2004. Weaver has undergone several back operations and must undergo a double hip replacement in the near future.
He will retire Dec. 31.
