Looking ahead: Wake Forest

Posted by ESPN.com's Heather Dinich

The Deacs only need two more wins to become bowl eligible and it would be a shocker if Jim Grobe didn’t get them. The question is whether Wake can avoid last year’s slip-up against Navy this weekend, as the Mids have been on a role lately and will have home field advantage. That game is followed by a home game against Miami, and Wake Forest just doesn’t match up well with the Canes. The preparation for Navy could help the Deacs, though, in their planning for the Nov. 7 game at Georgia Tech. Their best bets for two more wins, though, are this weekend at Navy, at home on Nov. 14 against Florida State, and in the season finale at Duke. If Wake can win two of those three games, it should be considered a successful season because of so much transition on defense.

Best case scenario: Wake Forest wins three of its five remaining games and is eligible for its fourth straight bowl game under Grobe.

Worst case scenario: The Deacs suffer their second straight regular-season loss to Navy, don’t win again until Nov. 14 at home against Florida State, and lose the season finale to a Duke team playing for its postseason.

Prediction: Wake will find two more wins and get invited to the Emerald Bowl.
