HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. -- There were a few news items from around the AFC East, so let's take a spin around the other three camps:

Buffalo Bills

S Donte Whitner and WR Josh Reed need MRIs. Whitner, he of the playoff guarantee, is an emerging star and crucial to the team's success. He was unable to practice Monday after suffering an ankle injury, which is believed to have occurred Saturday. Reed's lower back is bothering him. He had back surgery in the offseason.

Miami Dolphins

Head coach Tony Sparano released his first depth chart but said to pay no attention to it, especially not the slotting of QBs Josh McCown, John Beck and Chad Henne. He put it together only because the NFL made him in advance of Saturday's preseason opener against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

New England Patriots

The Patriots signed veteran offensive lineman John Welbourn. He played five seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles and four with the Kansas City Chiefs. He started every game for the Chiefs at right guard a year ago but also plays tackle. Boston Globe reporter Mike Reiss provides an excellent analysis on what this move means.
