AFC East playoff scenarios

Print this out and tape it to your bathroom mirror so you can see it first thing in the morning and last thing at night.

Basic scenarios for the AFC East championship:

  • If the Miami Dolphins beat the New York Jets, then they win the division.

  • If the Dolphins lose to or tie the Jets AND the New England Patriots beat the Buffalo Bills, then the Patriots win the division.

  • If the Dolphins lose to the Jets AND the Patriots lose to the Bills, then the Jets win the division (better division record than the Patriots).

  • If the Dolphins tie the Jets AND the Patriots lose to the Bills, then the Dolphins win the division.

Basic scenarios for the second wild-card berth:

  • The Baltimore Ravens control their future. A victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars puts the Ravens in the playoffs.

  • The Patriots can clinch the wild-card berth with a victory AND a Ravens loss.

If the Jets, Dolphins, Patriots and Ravens all finish 10-6:

  • Jets will win the AFC East (better head-to-head record than Dolphins and Patriots).

  • Ravens earn the wild card (Dolphins hold tiebreaker over the Patriots, but lost head-to-head meeting with Ravens in Week 7).
